Originally, Adam Oakgrove worked as a woodsman in the village of Deepwood, living a simple if hard life to support a growing family. However, he also served as the leader of his village’s militia, and when the Horde War began he was called into service. Fighting in the Battle at Deepwood to allow the villagers to escape, most of Adam’s men were killed, and he and the survivors were hauled away as prisoners. In the custody of Orcs and with some of his fellows already murdered in captivity, Adam began to give up hope.
However, one night the small Orc campsite where Adam and the others were being held was attacked. Laesath Aurelia and Mary-Lou Freebush, mercenaries hired by Desia, blasted their way into the camp and began slaughtering the Orcs. In the confusion Adam broke his men out of their holding pen and led them in helping the mercenaries.
With the Orcs dead, Adam spoke with the mercenaries and told them about the occupation of Deepwood. Laesath and Mary-Lou both agreed to help Adam and his men clear the town the next day, leading to the Purge of Deepwood.
Adam stripped a dead foe of his armor, and after burying their own fallen man and burning the village to prevent its occupation again, Adam brought his survivors back to Desia.
Once there Adam became something of an aide to Commander Ike Rison, who took Adam and the Deepwood Militia under his wings. Adam led his men in returning the favor to Laesath and Mary-Lou by helping Rison, Akarn, and Captain Cole Strutter when they rescued the cleric and the wizard before they could be overwhelmed during the Defense of the Mabinog.
Adam was one step behind Rison and Akarn and two steps behind Bigg during the first day of the crucial Battle of the Three Bridges, managing to topple an ogre with a single javelin during the fight.
After the Three Bridges Adam was formally enlisted into the Desian Grand Army’s new LongArm Division, given the rank of Sergeant and remaining under Rison’s command. Now wearing scale armor, Adam chose a unique weapon set. As opposed to the glaive or longsword/shield used by most sergeants, he keeps a quiver of javelins on his back and a spear and shield in hand.
